July 12-23, 1643 - The Vicar’s Perspective

July 12, 1643 - Vicar Walter Sencler

I thought hard about what my next move should be. Borrowing the relic to fight a demon is justified in the sight of the Lord, but I couldn’t admit to the Bishop what I had done. At least not without proof of victory over the demon. However, since it was ignored by the demon, it must be a fake and not the real holy relic. Removing a fraud from the cathedral cannot be a sin.

The exertion of yesterday left me exhausted, and I stayed in bed most of the day, which of course meant no Sunday service in the church. Blexham was sure to have told the whole story over ale last night with everyone in the inn. By tomorrow, everyone in the village will know. Will someone tell the Bishop?

No. They are too fearful of consequences.

I will not let the demon beat me, but what can I do?

July 13, 1643 - Vicar Walter Sencler

My fever and chills have gotten worse. I can’t get out of bed. Mathilda brings me food from the inn but she has to help me eat it.

Damn the demon.

July 23, 1643 Note by Gilbert Blexham.

Vicar Walter Sencler died of a fever and was buried in the church cemetery today.
